Pietro Mascagni & Ruggero Leoncavallo
/ 2011 / New Zealand Opera

Opera's famous double-bill, presented here as two halves of one dramatic day in a Sicilian village.
Set amidst rocky outcrops on a burning summer's day, this production pitched the modern against the conservative values in fable of mixed immoralities. The revolving set's dangerous peaks and dark crannies reflected the danger and turmoil inherent in the pieces themselves, performed with power and pathos by an international cast.
